Paxos is full of hidden coves, turquoise waters, wild cliffs and organised beaches that cater to every type of traveller.
The island may be small, but it’s incredibly diverse — from secluded spots with caves to lively beach bars for a more comfortable day by the sea.
1. Erimitis
Type: Wild, rocky beach beneath impressive white cliffs
Access: Drive to the viewpoint + 10–15 minutes downhill hike; or by boat
Facilities: None
Ideal for: Couples, photography, sunset lovers, adventure, snorkeling
History / Curiosity: Formed after a major landslide in 2008
Distance from Gaios: ~7.5 km (around 15–20 min by car)
Tip: Bring water, a hat and proper shoes. Perfect scenery for drone shots!
2. Kipiadi
Type: Large pebble beach with crystal-clear water
Access: By road + 5–10 minutes on a walking path
Facilities: None (completely natural)
Ideal for: Peace and quiet, couples, pristine waters, snorkeling
History / Curiosity: The biggest beach on the island
Distance from Gaios: ~7 km (about 15 min by car)
Tip: Essential to bring an umbrella and water — there’s no natural shade.
3. Harami – Lakka
Type: Small, sandy/pebbly beach in a calm and beautiful bay
Access: From Lakka, 2–4 minutes on foot
Facilities: Limited (a few sunbeds, cafés nearby)
Ideal for: Families, calm waters, kids, couples
History / Curiosity: Lakka is considered the natural “harbour” of northern Paxos
Distance from Gaios: ~8.5 km (15–20 min by car)
Tip: Amazing morning snorkeling — crystal-clear waters .
4. Mongonissi
Type: Small sandy/partly artificial beach in a sheltered bay
Access: Easy access by car, plenty of parking
Facilities: Beach bar, sunbeds, taverna
Ideal for: Families, relaxation, SUP, beginner swimmers
History / Curiosity: The only spot on Paxos with a semi-natural “resort-style” sandy beach
Distance from Gaios: ~3 km (5–7 min by car)
Tip: Perfect for a calm day — waves are rare.
5. Monodendri
Type: Organised pebble beach with turquoise waters
Access: Very easy, large parking area
Facilities: Beach bars, sunbeds, restaurants
Ideal for: Families, young travellers, groups, all-day relaxation
History / Curiosity: One of the first fully organised beaches on Paxos
Distance from Gaios: ~7 km (about 15 min by car)
Tip: Arrive before 11:00 to get a good sunbed spot .
6. Kloni Gouli
Type: Quiet pebble beach with clear, shallow waters
Access: Short drive + a small walking path
Facilities: Minimal or none
Ideal for: Couples, peaceful swims, relaxation
History / Curiosity: Very close to Gaios, yet still unknown to many visitors
Distance from Gaios: ~2.5 km (around 5 min by car)
Tip: Great for a late-afternoon swim with fewer people .
7. Orkos
Type: Pebble beach, wild, with very clear and deep waters
Access: Drive to a point + about 10 minutes on foot
Facilities: None
Ideal for: Snorkeling, adventure, quiet surroundings
History / Curiosity: One of the most untouched beaches on the island
Distance from Gaios: ~7.5–8 km (15–20 min by car)
Tip: Bring a mask — the seabed is amazing .
8. Marmari
Type: Large pebble beach in a completely natural setting
Access: Drive + short walk
Facilities: None
Ideal for: Peace, couples, nature lovers
History / Curiosity: One of the most “raw” beaches — nothing artificial around
Distance from Gaios: ~5.5 km (10–12 min by car)
Tip: Wonderful for an early-morning swim before the sun gets strong.
9. Kaki Lagada
Type: Large pebble beach with some organised sections
Access: Easy by car
Facilities: A few sunbeds, small canteen (depending on season)
Ideal for: Families, groups, swimming
History / Curiosity: One of the locals’ favourite beaches
Distance from Gaios: ~3.5 km (about 10 min by car)
Tip: The beach gets shade earlier in the afternoon — great on hot days.
10. Yanna Beach – Gaios
Type: Small pebble beach inside Gaios Bay
Access: 2-minute walk from the centre
Facilities: Minimal
Ideal for: Quick swim, families staying in Gaios
History / Curiosity: Known as “the village beach” — very popular with locals
Distance from Gaios: Right in town
Tip: Perfect for a morning dip while watching the sailboats enter the harbour.
